1968 Coyote-Powered Ford Mustang Fastback, GT500 Style
TThis 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback underwent an extensive custom build between 2022 and 2024 in collaboration with Lone Star Brothers of Plano, Texas. Inspired by the iconic GT500 "Eleanor" from the 2000 film Gone in 60 Seconds, the car was transformed over the course of more than 2,000 labor hours into a modern, high-performance restomod.
Power comes from a Gen 3 5.0-liter Coyote V8 paired with a Ford 10R80 ten-speed automatic transmission and a full-floating MTF rear axle with a Watts-link suspension. The all-steel Eleanor-style body is finished in Mercedes-Benz Olive Green Metallic and rides on adjustable coilover suspension, 18-inch Rocket Racing wheels wrapped in staggered Falken Azenis tires, and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. The interior blends classic styling with modern amenities, including tan leather upholstery, Dakota Digital instrumentation, Old Air Hurricane air conditioning, keyless entry, a Pioneer audio system with amplifier and subwoofer, and LED lighting throughout. Driven approximately 50 miles since completion, this professionally built Mustang is offered by the selling dealer with a Marti Report, a comprehensive build binder, and a clean California title.
Originally finished in Lime Gold, the Mustang was stripped and fitted with a full steel Eleanor-style body before being refinished in Mercedes-Benz Olive Green Metallic. Exterior features include a domed hood, integrated rear spoiler, functional side scoops, Hella Black Magic grille lights, and LED lighting. The accompanying photographs were taken shortly after the build's completion in early 2024, after which the car was placed on display in a climate-controlled showroom.
Handling and braking were upgraded with adjustable coilover suspension, a full-floating MTF rear axle featuring a Watts-link arrangement, staggered 18-inch Rocket Racing wheels with Falken Azenis performance tires, and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. The car uses a full-floating Watts-link MTF axle.
Inside, the cabin was completely retrimmed in tan leather with matching carpeting and equipped with an Old Air Hurricane climate control system, keyless entry, and a Pioneer multimedia head unit connected to a four-channel amplifier and subwoofer. A wood-rim steering wheel is mounted to a variable-resistance Ididit steering column, while Dakota Digital gauges provide instrumentation. The odometer shows just 47 miles, representing the distance traveled since the completion of the build.
Under the hood, the Gen 3 5.0-liter Coyote V8 is equipped with a conical air intake, aluminum radiator, and a custom-fabricated side-exit exhaust system. Power is delivered through a Ford 10R80 ten-speed automatic transmission to the full-floating MTF rear axle, creating a modern drivetrain designed to complement the car's classic Eleanor-inspired appearance.
