Supercharged LS3–Powered 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS Coupe 6-Speed

This 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS coupe is a custom build completed in 2018, with work including installing a modified 6.2-liter LS3 V8 and an LSA-style supercharger with a reinforced intercooler brick. The Tremec six-speed manual transmission is linked to a Currie 9-inch rear end with a TrueTrac differential, and the car rides on an adjustable suspension with UMI, SPC, and Varishock components. The red body is complemented by saddle leather and microsuede upholstery, and the cabin is outfitted with a custom center console, a Billet Specialties steering wheel, and a Pioneer touchscreen receiver linked to performance audio components. Rushforth Rated X wheels, Baer six-piston brake calipers, a hydroboosted brake system, and long-tube headers were also specified during the build. Acquired by the current owner in 2010, this modified Malibu SS is now offered by the seller on their behalf with a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The body was refinished in red during the 2018 build, and exterior details include quad headlights, chrome bumpers, Malibu SS badging, quarter vent windows, and a hood spear. The windshield wipers do not function.

Rushforth Rated X wheels measure 18″ in diameter up front and 19″ at the rear and are mounted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires sized 235/40 and 265/35, respectively. The car rides on SPC adjustable upper and lower A-arms, UMI adjustable rear upper control arms, UMI boxed rear lower control arms, Hellwig front and rear sway bars, and adjustable dampers. Braking is provided by hydroboosted four-wheel discs with red-finished Baer six-piston calipers, 14″ slotted and drilled rotors, and a Wilwood master cylinder.

The cabin received custom furnishings from DJ Designs of San Francisco, California, according to the seller. Saddle leather and microsuede cover the bolstered front seats, rear bench, custom door panels, and center console, and square-weave mats line the floors. Appointments include a power-adjustable driver seat, an aftermarket floor-mounted shifter, billet door handles, and a Pioneer head unit powering a JL Audio amplifier, subwoofer, and Focal speakers.

A Billet Specialties steering wheel sits on a tilting column ahead of a custom dashboard fascia with AutoMeter instrumentation, including a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and supplementary gauges. The odometer shows 5k miles, all of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 6.2-liter LS3 V8 was assembled with forged internals, according to the seller, who notes that it is fitted with the following components:

  • LSA-style supercharger with a reinforced intercooler brick

  • Ported 90mm throttle body

  • Custom-grind camshaft

  • Brian Tooley Racing .660″ valve springs with titanium retainers

  • Injector Dynamics ID1050X injectors

  • AFCO uprated heat exchanger

  • ATI Super Damper

  • Mighty Mouse Gen 4 PCV and catch-can system

  • Speartech LS-58X engine management and wiring harness

The seller tells us the Tremec Magnum six-speed manual transmission uses a McLeod RXT twin-disc clutch kit and routes power to a Mark Williams custom 3.5″ 4130 chromoly driveshaft and a Currie F9 9-inch rear end with 3.70:1 gears, a TrueTrac limited-slip differential, and 31-spline axles. Long-tube headers are linked to an X-pipe exhaust system with Borla mufflers.
